I. General Recruitment Regulations

  • Potential new-members are not permitted access to The Hill prior to the opening of the hill, which will be designated by IFC and Panhellenic
  • All members read, understand, and abide by the NPC Unanimous Agreements
  • Panhellenic will define the contact permitted between chapter members and potential new members.
    • Definition of Social Contact – normal conversation between potential members and sorority members and alumnae.  No engagement in conversation relating to recruitment will be allowed.
    • Definition of Strict Silence – no conversation or contact with potential members by sorority members and alumnae.  This includes, but is not limited to, verbal, written, printed, or typed (Facebook, My Space, E-mail, Instant Messenger…).
  • Disrespectful comments towards other fraternity or sororities will not be tolerated
  • Conversation about alcohol will not be tolerated
  • No bid promising, verbal or written, including implications of a bid
  • Sorority women may not give anything to potential new members, including the buying of meals
  • No potential new members may take anything back with them from recruitment events at chapter houses
  • The Panhellenic board must approve all signs, posters, and newspaper ads advertising a sorority, for the purposes of recruitment.
  • All alumnae are expected to follow recruitment guidelines
    • Panhellenic discourages chapters from using alumnae in a capacity, during recruitment, that allows them direct recruiting contact with potential new members, unless otherwise approved by Panhellenic. 
  • A schedule of all recruitment events will be provided by Panhellenic at a time sufficient enough for all chapters to prepare for each recruitment period

II. Fall Period (August-December)

  • Recruitment skits must be submitted to Panhellenic for approval by the date that the Panhellenic Recruitment Chair sets
  • Rho Gamma spot must be provided by chapters and approved by the Panhellenic Council for open houses and each round of recruitment
  • Panhellenic will set budgets for recruitment including allocating a set amount of Panhellenic Council money and predetermining what chapters can spend from their individual budgets.
    • All receipts must be turned into Panhellenic for verification.
  • Social contact (definition above) applies between the first day of classes in the fall semester and the last day of final exams in the fall semester
  • Strict silence (definition above) begins at 4 pm on the last day of finals in the fall semester and lasts until bid day in the spring semester.
  • No sorority member may directly or indirectly invite or accompany a potential new member to an off-campus house, off campus establishment, a fraternity, or any other on-campus dwelling
  • Potential new members are not permitted in sorority houses, including off-campus affiliated houses, except during Panhellenic approved events
  • Gryphons may be visited by their sorority friends, but visits must be kept within the confines of the residence hall room, without potential new members present
  • No sorority members are permitted in the freshman women’s residence halls, except to visit relatives
  • No sorority member may take a potential new member off-campus to eat, or for any other reason
  • No sorority members may drive a potential new member to or pay for a potential new member at any on-campus eatery
  • COR (Continuous Open Recruitment), as defined in the NPC Green Book, will be encouraged in the fall semester.
  • Panhellenic will set dates for when bids may begin to be handed out during COR.  All names and GPA’s of potential members must be approved by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA).

III. Spring Period (January-May)

  • Panhellenic must see and approve budgets allocated by chapters for recruitment
  • Bids will be handed out at a location determined in advance by the Panhellenic Council on the Monday proceeding formal recruitment
  • No men or drinking activities allowed for any recruitment event, including bid night
  • Continuous Open Recruitment (COR) will occur after formal spring recruitment beginning 48 hours from when bids are signed, as set by the Panhellenic Recruitment Chair.

IV. Rho Gammas

  • Must remain in the designated seating area during open houses and spring recruitment
  • Must disaffiliate from their chapters at the date set by the Panhellenic Recruitment Chair
  • Must remain unbiased and objective at all times
  • Must abide by the Rho Gamma’s fine policy and statement
  • Must abide by document of expectations written by Panhellenic Recruitment Chair
  • Will be appointed in the spring semester each year via an application process with the Panhellenic Council and OFSA. 

V. Recruitment Chairs

  • Must attend all meetings
  • Must attend Panhellenic sponsored recruitment events
  • Must coordinate chapter participation in Panhellenic recruitment events
  • Must abide by document of expectations written by Panhellenic Recruitment Chair
  • Must take down and/or cover up all pictures of Rho Gamma’s and Panhellenic members during any recruitment events
  • Must take down and/or cover up all pictures with alcohol in them during any recruitment events
  • Must abide by the Recruitment Chair fine policy

Recruitment Bill of Rights
This bill of rights was formed to protect your rights duringrecruitment. If you feel your rights are being violated, contact your Rho Gamma, the Panhellenic Association, or the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs immediately.
  1. The right to be treated as an individual.
  2. The right to be fully informed about the recruitment process.
  3. The right to ask questions and to receive honest, objective answers from the Greek Life Guides and other members.
  4. The right to be treated with respect.
  5. The right to be treated as a capable and mature person without feeling patronized.
  6. The right to ask how and why and receive opinions and straight answers.
  7. The right to have and express opinions to Greek Life Guides.
  8. The right to have inviolable confidentiality when sharing information with Greek Life Guides.
  9. The right to make choices without undue pressure from others.
  10. The right to be fully informed of the binding agreement in the formal membership recruitment acceptance card signing.
  11. The right to make decisions and to accept full responsibility for the results of them.
  12. The right to have a positive, safe, and enriching recruitment and new membership experience.
